“And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.” Deuteronomy 8:2-3

As a new student, we understand fully that you’ve taken a step of faith to invest into what the Lord has for you these next 10 months. We hope to challenge you in ways that will truly move and shape your hearts. The “Wilderness” experience is at the start of every new student’s semester precisely for this reason.

This five-day backpacking trip is designed so that you may begin to see what’s truly held within you as the Lord also humbled and tested those He freed and led into the wilderness. You will experience working in teams and building these new relationships as you seek the Lord through daily teachings, while also enduring challenging trials, including a time of 24-hours in solitude. You are asked to leave behind items of comfort, such as deodorant, opportunities to bath or shower, perfumes, make-up, mirrors, and other items that many today consider “essentials.” Allowing the Lord to be your strength in these challenges, we hope will motivate you to engage into a deeper relationship with Him.
