Roadtrip Update-Absalom M.

By Scotland Practicum 2011
Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

Today I left the church in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Last night I had one more chance to share the Word  with the Youth and said good bye to all the new brothers and sisters I met there. It was so encouraging to see what The Lord has done in Bonners Ferry in such a short time.

I’m on the last week of my Road Trip and The Lord has given me many opportunities to serve His people and to share of His Word. As I was planning my last stop in Truckee with Russ over the phone, we remembered about our beloved Matt and Tati Maldonado.  Knowing that they have been wanting for some one to come up and visit them, I decided to made a stop in Madras, Oregon.

So here I am and I’m planning to be here all day tomorrow as well.

If weather permits, tomorrow we will go to the local skate park to pass out some surfing videos (Walk on Water), some free sodas and bottles of water. The idea is to hang out with the kids as we share the Love of God and His Good News of Salvation.

Day 18-Clean Up/BBQ/Pack Up and Head Out!

By Scotland Practicum 2011
Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

Today is our last day here in Motherwell, and what a blessing this trip has been! Forming relationships with the church body here in Motherwell has been an amazing encouragement and blessing for all of us, and today we got to deepen those relationships a little bit more over a BBQ with each other and some members of the congregation. One member of the church, Cameron, cooked us burgers, hot dogs, chicken, and South African sausage for lunch, and it was DELICIOUS. After the BBQ, we cleaned up and finished packing, and now we’re enjoying some fellowship with each other and some members of the church who have come to say goodbye before our us comes in about an hour to take us to London for our flight home.

Please be praying for safe travel and divine appointments on our way home.

God is good-all the time!

Scotland Testimony-Lawrence Q.

By Scotland Practicum 2011
Monday, May 30th, 2011

The first day we were here (5-15-11), I went out with Anna, Paul, Nathalie, Durrard, and Rebekah, and Anna waved and said hello to Ronny. Ronny started cursing and saying “you don’t just wave to everyone in Motherwell. You don’t do that.” He then went on to make fun of mine and Durrard’s hats. We started talking to him about his life. His outer shell started softening as he revealed that we was upset because of his 29-year-old daughter and having issues with her custody. Rebekah had told him quite directly with Scriptures about his availability of salvation. A homeless man from earlier then interrupted the conversation and Ronny wanted to beat him up.  Paul stepped in and explained how the homeless man wasa  good guy because we had talked with him earlier. Paul diffused the situation and Ronny actually then went over to the homeless man and gave him a poun to help him out. We continued talking about the Lord and ending up all holding hands and praying in the middle of downtown Motherwell. The conversation was cut short because another gentleman fell in the street and was bleeding, and Paul, Anna, and Durrard were quick to offer assistance. We thought that was the last we’d see of Ronny. BUT, a week and a half later (5-29-11), on our way to Carluke, we saw Ronny on the train platform. He said he was listening to a song by Phil Collins that was singing about Jesus at the moment we walked up. He thought that was interesting. He was sober and a lot more calm, and he was saying that he had hoped to see us again. We actually caught the same train, where we talked and shared some of Romans with him. We gave him a gospel of John and had joyful hugs goodbye. Praise the Lord!

Day 17-Highlands

By Scotland Practicum 2011
Monday, May 30th, 2011

Today we were blessed to have gone to the Highlands altogether with the church staff from Calvary Motherwell as well as some of the congregation. We visited Loch Lomond, Callander, and the William Wallace monument in Stirling. It was a great day of fellowship and fun (we even got to see some of the highland cows!!), and after getting back to the church we had a debrief and meeting before getting a head start on packing and heading to bed-our last night here in Motherwell.

Tomorrow we are going to be cleaning, having a goodbye barbeque, and then finishing up packing, cleaning, shopping, and money exchanging before our bus comes at 10:30pm to bring us to London for our flight home to California.

Please pray that there would be no last minutes stresses or complications, but that everything would go smoothly and that we would have safe travels, both on the road and in the air.

Day 16-Church Time

By Scotland Practicum 2011
Sunday, May 29th, 2011

Today we had a group go to a church in Carluke for the morning service, while the rest of us stayed in Motherwell and helped out with the church here. Chaz finished up the book of Jonah, and then we had lunch, tea, and coffee with the church body. In the afternoon we sent another team up to Carluke to invite people to the special evening service while the other team came back to Motherwell for the evening service here at Calvary Motherwell. Chaz taught for the last time from the pulpit while we are here, and following that we had another time of fellowship with the body over tea and coffee.

Tomorrow we go to the Highlands in Loch Lomond. And Tuesday is clean-up, BBQ, pack up and head out day. Please pray for safe travels and encouraging fellowship for us in our last days in Scotland.

Scotland Testimony-Joseph G.

By Scotland Practicum 2011
Sunday, May 29th, 2011

There are 2 young teenagers here at the church in Motherwell who’s parents had stopped going to church a few years ago, but when the parents saw the change that was coming about, and the way the church felt after the different love that we had brought it caused them to stop and think and reconsider coming back to church.

Yesterday at the train station in Glasgow, they had received one of the flowers that our team was passing out on their way to a birthday party at the church in Motherwell. To them it was like God telling them to come back to church. The kids have been here both Sundays that we have, and it is our prayer that the parents will come back to church.

Roadtrip Update-Absalom M.

By Scotland Practicum 2011
Saturday, May 28th, 2011

Today was my second day here in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.  Met with Garrett Graupner who is pastoring Mountain Springs Church in this town. I was introduced to Josh and Rick who serve in the Junior High and High School group. Yesterday morning I had the opportunity to share with the Youth on Missions. They meet every Friday morning for a missions class in preparation for their three week missions trip to the Dominican Republic this summer.

The church also has a separate building dedicated for the Youth located in Downtown. It’s called “The Rock” and its opened from Wednesday to Saturday from 4:00pm to 10:00pm. I have been helping out in this area for the last two nights.

Tomorrow I will get to be in both morning services and them hopefully to hang out with some brothers.

For the rest of the week I going to be helping around the church fixing and organizing some of the rooms.

I’m praying that the Lord will continue to opened up doors to share the Gospel with people that don’t know Him yet.

Blessings hermanos

Day 15-Glasgow

By Scotland Practicum 2011
Saturday, May 28th, 2011

Today we spent our last outreach day in Glasgow. We all left and headed to the train station after breakfast and a devo and arrived in Glasgow at around 11 o’ clock in the morning. We spent all day in the downtown area of the city and walked around, talking to people. We were blessed that the sun did peek out a few times in between the rainfall, and overall, the weather wasn’t that bad. Each team had a little bit of outreach money that we could use to bless someone else, so some teams bought people some food, one team bought flowers and passed them out for free and told people that God loved them and made them precious in His sight.

We headed back to the church after Glasgow and had a quick debrief and time for testimonies, and then hit the sack.

Tomorrow morning we have one team going to Carluke to go to a different church and help out, and the rest of the teams are staying at Calvary Motherwell in the morning, then in the afternoon another team is going to Carluke for the evening service. I say that today is our last outreach day because for the next couple days we will be focusing more on “inreach.” Tomorrow we have church and fellowship with the body, on Monday we are altogether going up to the Highlands with the church staff for the day, and on Tuesday we will be cleaning up, having a goodbye BBQ, and then heading out for London at 10:30 that night to catch our plane the next morning at 10.

Please pray for us as we continue to be used for the encouragement of the body of Christ while we are here for the next few days and please pray also for safe travel and divine appointments for us as we travel.

Day 14-David Livingstone and Laundry/Bus Outreach

By Scotland Practicum 2011
Friday, May 27th, 2011

Today during the morning and early part of the afternoon we had some of us go to David Livingstone’s house and some went to go do laundry outreach. After that we took the rest of the afternoon and evening to do bus outreach and just walking around various towns nearby and talking to people. It was a pretty low-key day, learning more about the people of Scotland, both past and present.

After outreaches, we all went back to the church for a debrief and bed!

Please be praying that over our last few days here in Scotland we would be bold in following what the Spirit is guiding us to do and who He wants us to speak to or pray for.

Truckee Practicum-Russell D.

By Scotland Practicum 2011
Thursday, May 26th, 2011

The end of life is better than the beginning;  One of my closest friends and counselors is in need of loving encouragement, his only brother and last family member is on his last few days of life. Liver cancer has taken control of his body.  Death is a mysterious part of life, To the person who doesn’t know theKing of Kings Jesus Christ, there is no hope, all is lost but for the man who has confessed Jesus and believes He has risen from the dead. Death is the start of eternity worshiping Christ.   As I sat with my friend he asked me ” Why would God take him now? now that he is a new man changed, transformed. wouldn’t He (God) want to continue to use my brother more”?  I will never know or assume the will of God, But I thought to myself… God took a broken man, dead in his trespasses, and made him alive; used him to change lives and Glorified Himself and then took a man into eternity. I feel blessed to be so close to death but closer to life in Christ.

Be faithful in the little things… is what goes on in my head as I wonder what I could do for the Lord. Over the years I have been blessed to come across people walking on the side of the road looking for a ride, and with the discernment of the Holy Spirit when I’m led I will stop and offer a ride. As I spent a wonderful weekend at my best friends wedding I drove home through beautiful Napa California. As I drove through the windy road I came across a man named Dan. He had a flat tire on his bicycle and was in need of a ride. So I pulled over and he gladly got into my truck, and as we drove he told me “he was fleeing from a gang that was trying to assault him over a bicycle that he stole from them”. After the short conversation I asked him about the Lord and if he was a follower, and he said he was “a hopeful atheist in search of something to be true.” In the few minutes I had with him in my truck, I seemed more to disarm him of the false beliefs that he had. I dropped him off in the next town and thought to myself that was a start for following Christ.  I drove on to my destination to find that I needed to go Sacramento were Dan was going. So what was I to do…  I tracked him down and we were driving once again talking about Christ.  In the end after pouring out my heart and telling of Jesus’ love for him, Dan knew Christ was the way. We prayed and Dan’s next words made me laugh, “This is good, God is good.” Yes, Christ is good!
